Invitation to rising M2s: Apply for ACH’s Academic Immersion Scholars Program

Dear Rising M2 students,

We are excited to announce that Akron Children's Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute is now accepting applications for the 2026 Rising M2 Academic Immersion Program.

Program details:

  • Duration: 10 weeks.
  • Dates: May 25 - July 31, 2026
  • Culmination: Students will conduct a scoping review, mentored by outstanding faculty and medical/scientific librarians.
  • Asynchronous Content: Prepares students for an in-depth exploration of the administration and conduct of clinical research.
  • Mentorship: Students will have up to four 4-hour sessions with mentors and their delegates for clinical and administrative observation experiences.

Application deadline:

Students must complete the application by Jan. 9, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Include a PDF list of completed medical school courses by May 2026 and a single-page essay discussing your interest in research and its potential impact on public health and wellness. Please note that all submissions must be original drafts written by you; any AI-generated submissions will result in automatic rejection of your application.

Program overview:

  • Library Sessions: Attend 2-hour sessions with ACH and NEOMED librarians to learn about the literature review process (searching, reading, drafting, and building an argument).
  • Bi-Weekly Mentor Meetings: Participate in bi-weekly in-person or virtual sessions with mentors for career development and literature review updates.
  • Shadowing Experiences: Complete three 2–4-hour shadowing opportunities with their mentors.
  • Weekly Faculty Sessions: Attend a weekly 90-minute faculty reflection session led by Faculty Directors.
  • Group Photo Session: Join the mentor and student group photo.
  • End-of-Program Dinner: Participate in the celebratory dinner. 

 Benefits:

  • Real-World Experience: This multi-modal Pediatric Immersion introduces Rising M2 students to real-world clinical research and the operations of eastern Ohio's largest regional integrated free-standing healthcare delivery system, dedicated to infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
  • Stipend: A competitive stipend is available.
  • Awards: Immersion Scholars are also eligible for the Considine Scientific Scholars Award to help offset dissemination costs.
