Students and faculty present at oldest pediatric nephrology meeting

The Joint Miami Pediatric Nephrology Meeting, the oldest national conference dedicated to pediatric nephrology, was held March 19–23, 2025 in Miami, Florida. Several students from the NEOMED College of Medicine participated in this prestigious forum, including Sydney Smith (M3) and Jack Hu (M4), under the mentorship and leadership of Rupesh Raina, M.D., FACP, FAAP, professor of internal medicine, whose guidance was instrumental in facilitating their involvement.

Dr. Raina’s longstanding commitment to advancing pediatric nephrology was further recognized through his invitation to deliver a keynote address, where he presented his important research titled: “Transition of Renal Transplant from Pediatric to Adult Care.” His presentation underscored the critical nature of continuity in transplant care and highlighted his leadership in the field.

Both students had their abstracts accepted for presentation, showcasing their work alongside leading researchers and emerging scholars in the field of pediatric nephrology.

Sydney presented her poster, titled “Incidence and Severity and Extrarenal Manifestations and Outcomes in Pediatric Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome: A Retrospective Cohort Study.”

Jack’s abstract was selected as one of the Top 5 Oral Presentations, earning him a place in the Young Investigator’s Showcase. He presented: “A Comparison of Demographics and Outcomes in Adolescents and Young Adults with End-Stage Kidney Disease: A USRDS Registry Study”

Congratulations to Dr. Raina, Sydney and Jack for their hard work and for representing our institution at this national academic conference.
