Health Careers Bootcamp, a four-day immersive experience at NEOMED designed to stimulate students’ interests in the basic sciences and medicine and to expose them to career opportunities in those fields, will be held June 22-25, 2026. Applications are now being accepted. Highly motivated undergraduate students, including graduating high school seniors who will begin their undergraduate education in fall of 2026, are encouraged to apply. The program will be held on the NEOMED campus.

Health Careers Bootcamp provides hands-on experiences in biomedical science workshops ― research, clinical problem-solving and an introduction to the fields of clinical medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and academic research. Participants join physicians, NEOMED students, community healthcare professionals, faculty and researchers in performing applied activities, such as physician-patient communication practices; identifying clues to a patient’s illness; solving medical cases by using critical thinking; and modern laboratory techniques.

Participants also complete a case study on a fictitious patient, which focuses on a current and relevant community health issue.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent by June 22, 2026. They must also be enrolled at a college or university and entering their first, second or third year.
  • Participants must reside or attend school in Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Holmes, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas, Trumbull or Wayne counties.
  • The application deadline is April 17, 2026.

Tuition for the three-day experience is $250. There are a limited number of tuition waivers available for eligible participants. All meals are provided, and participants are transported by bus to a Kent State University dormitory for overnight accommodations.
