Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health to host suicide-prevention-for-helping-professionals panel

The Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health acknowledges health care students and professionals who are in the fields of medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy have a unique role in proactively supporting and encouraging patients to seek services when they are in distress. However, these same students and professionals also combat struggles to encourage a colleague to proactively ask for help who may be experiencing mental health struggles.

Join us for an enlightening panel discussion with experts and professionals with lived experience to raise awareness about suicide prevention and to recognize the signs and symptoms of a colleague or professional students who may be at risk. Additionally, participants will recognize differences between constructive vs. concerning coping mechanisms during this panel and have the opportunity to discuss licensing application materials for healthcare professionals. Participants will also summarize the strengths of peer-based, collaborative CRP to empower individuals to self-manage a future suicide crisis. Finally, this opportunity for participants will recognize the fluid vulnerability theory and functional model of suicide to better conceptualize why people consider suicide.
