OPCSMH invites the NEOMED community to screen of ‘The S Word’

The Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health (OPCSMH) at Northeast Ohio Medical University is proud to announce a special screening of the powerful and critically acclaimed documentary film, The S Word, on Thursday, April 11 at 2:15 p.m. in the NEW Center Ballroom. This event is part of the OPCSMH’s ongoing commitment to raise awareness about mental health and foster open dialogue with our community.

Directed by Lisa Klein, The S Word, is a 90-minute-long feature documentary that puts a human face on a topic that has long been stigmatized and buried with the lives it has claimed. The film gives a platform to those with lived experience - people who have attempted to take their own lives and survived to tell their stories. Klein is co-founder of MadPix Films, an LA-based independent studio and co-directed the award-winning film Of Two Minds, winning multiple awards. She currently tours the country speaking and using her films to raise awareness of mental health issues.

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring Lisa Klein as moderator and panelists specializing in suicide prevention, mental health and student/counselor preparedness. Third-year pharmacy student, Olivia King, will participate in the panel and provide her perspective at a student at NEOMED. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, share their own experiences and learn about resources available for those in need of support.

The screening is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact opcsmh@neomed.edu.

Those who are not planning to attend the Campus Safety & Suicide Prevention Symposium should register for the screening only.
