New Faculty Onboarding Session 3
The Faculty Pod: Exploring Instructional Design in Three Waves
Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025
2 – 3 p.m.
Training Room (in-person only)
Presented by: Jennifer Hillyer, Ph.D., Pamela Roeper, M.A., and Maclane Stebbins, M.Ed.
The Faculty Pod: Exploring Instructional Design in Three Waves is a high-impact session created specifically for faculty. Modeled after the natural rhythm of a well-designed class using best practices of instructional design, this training follows a Before, During and After structure.
In the Before phase, you’ll assess your current understanding of instructional design. This mirrors how we assess students’ prior knowledge in the classroom.
In the During phase, you’ll actively engage with effective teaching strategies such as case-based learning, peer instruction and debate, experiencing firsthand what active learning can look like. This portion will offer practical tips and techniques you can immediately apply in your own teaching.
Finally, in the After phase, we’ll explore how to wrap up a class or session with intention by using strategies like exit tickets, learner self-evaluation, reflective prompts, real-world application or utilizing a “parking lot.”
Whether you're new to teaching or looking to refine your approach, this session will help you understand the best practices of instructional design and plan and deliver learner-centered experiences from start to finish.
Whether you are a seasoned faculty member, or brand new to NEOMED, this is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, ask questions and learn about instructional design support that will enhance your success as educators.
Please register to receive an Outlook invitation for the session.
*this session is incentivized faculty development activity in the Faculty Incentive Plan
