The UH-NEOMED BioStatistics Journal Club is focused on statistical concepts, study design and common pitfalls in clinical research.
Overview
The Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) at NEOMED, in collaboration with University Hospitals, will host a recurring journal club for faculty, research staff and trainees at all career stages who want to build confidence in interpreting statistical methods used in clinical research. Sessions focus on common pitfalls, key concepts, and practical considerations in study design and analysis, using journal articles as a framework for discussion.
Learning Objective(s): To develop an understanding of how statistical methods are used and evaluated in medical literature, with emphasis on interpretation and clinical relevance, rather than mathematical detail.

This will be an interactive session that will explore the growing role of artificial intelligence in healthcare, focusing on practical applications and considerations for medical professionals. Opportunities for questions and guided group discussions will be provided throughout the session.

Who Should Attend?
Faculty, research staff, and trainees at all career stages interested in improving their ability to interpret clinical research. No advanced statistical background required.
Who Will Be Leading?
Kiersten Winter is a Biostatistician II in CTRI who earned her M.S. in Applied Statistics from the Rochester Institute of Technology. At NEOMED, she collaborates with clinical research teams to design, analyze and interpret biomedical and health-related studies, providing statistical consultation and data management support.
