V Week 2021, Feb. 22-26

Hello everyone!

V Week will be held Monday, Feb. 22, through Friday, Feb. 26!

What is V Week?

V Week is an expansion of V Day, which is an activist movement with the aim of ending violence against women. It was started by Eve Ensler (now known as V), the author of The Vagina Monologues, among many other plays. V Week will consist of several organizations who collaborate to host events to raise awareness and provide training in regards to issues such as intimate partner/domestic violence, sexual harassment and assault, sex/gender discrimination, women's health issues with an emphasis on LGBTQIA+ Health, violence against the LGBTQIA+ community, and so many others.

"Together, we RISE to free all women (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities) from sexual, physical, racial, economic, political, socio-cultural, ideological and climate crisis violence. We RISE to end rape, battery, incest, sexual harassment, female genital mutilation, sexual slavery and trafficking, child marriage, femicide, sexual, gender and reproductive oppression, violence towards LGBTQIA+ communities." - V Day Campaign

Check out our flyer (attached) to see what fantastic events will be going on throughout the week.

In addition to the events listed, Secularism and Spirituality in Medicine Alliance and American Medical Women's Association will be hosting a drive to be donated to Safer Futures, a domestic violence shelter in Kent, and local area emergency rooms which provide Sexual Assault Examinations. Bins will be located at the Village as well as outside of Student Services for donations of menstrual products and new, packaged undergarments of various sizes (sports bras, underwear, camisoles). Those who donate will be eligible to receive a discount on SSMA's t-shirt sale to be announced soon!
