World Schizophrenia Awareness Day

Over 20 million people worldwide are diagnosed with schizophrenia. Each year on May 24, World Schizophrenia Awareness Day is dedicated to fighting against stigma and bringing treatment and resources into the spotlight.

The Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center at NEOMED would like to welcome visitors to the main Psychiatry suite (across from the library) on Friday, May 24, between 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. for a silver ribbon cookie. The silver ribbon is a symbol of mental health and disability awareness. People wear the ribbon to show support for people with brain disorders or disabilities, to break down barriers to treatment and support, and to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness. The ribbon also represents hope through education and research.

The BeST Center promotes recovery and improves the lives of people with schizophrenia by accelerating the adoption of evidence-based and promising practices. The BeST Center works in partnership with community-based mental health treatment providers and offers training, consultation and technical assistance.

Join the BeST Center on Friday for resources to learn how to recognize schizophrenia signs, talk about recovery, and learn more about treatment of the mental illness.
