AMEF Scholarship Opportunity for Medical Students

The Academy of Medicine Education Foundation (AMEF) is now accepting medical student scholarship applications, to be awarded in 2020. The AMEF was formed by the physician leadership of the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland & Northern Ohio (AMCNO) more than 50 years ago. Since its inception, AMEF has granted more than $1.5 million in scholarships to qualified students.

Medical students who are currently in their third or fourth year of medical school for 2019-2020, and who meet the following criteria, will be considered by AMEF members as possible scholarship recipients. Complete information, including the accompanying application and a copy of a current transcript, must be received in our office no later than Jan. 31, 2020.

AMEF scholarship eligibility criteria

  1. AMEF awards scholarships each year to third- and fourth-year medical students (MD/DO) that are or were residents of Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Portage or Summit counties, and who demonstrate an interest in organized medicine, leadership skills, community involvement and academic achievement.
  2. AMEF scholarships will be awarded to third- and fourth-year medical students attending the following colleges: Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of CWRU, Northeast Ohio Medical University and Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Announcement of the scholarship grants awarded will be made following the official announcement of all awardees in the AMCNO’s Northern Ohio Physician magazine in 2020 (typically the May/June or July/August issue). Students will receive their scholarships four to six weeks following the announcement of their award.

The application is available on the web. Applicants can submit the application and transcripts via email (instructions on the application) or print the application and mail it (along with transcripts) to AMEF.
