American Psychiatric Association Honors Northeast Ohio Partnership

Congratulations to NEOMED’s Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center on its partnership with the Nord Center FIRST Program of Lorain County, which received this year's American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Silver Award. Just three Psychiatric Services Achievement awards (gold, silver and bronze) were made for all of the United States and Canada.

Led by Kathryn Maimone, LISW, FIRST is a comprehensive, outpatient, team-based program aimed at improving the mental health and quality of life for individuals who have experienced a first episode of psychosis, according to a July 8 article in the Morning Journal.

NEOMED’s BeST Center provides training, consultation and technical assistance to help community mental health agencies provide best practices in schizophrenia treatment. It works with consumers, family members, expert consultants, policy makers and clinical partners. The BeST Center is a Coordinating Center of Excellence in the Department of Psychiatry at NEOMED.

The award was announced in the July issue of the APA’s Psychiatric News
