AMWA Needs You For V-Week!

Ladies of NEOMED (students, faculty, and staff),

Have you ever wanted to lend your voice to uplifting women, but were unsure of how to do so? Have you ever wanted to share the strength of women globally, to use your voice and platform and abilities in a meaningful and impactful way?

Then the American Medical Women’s Association needs you! Each year, AMWA hosts V-Week during the week of Valentine’s Day, in which we bring attention and activism to helping women all around us. The week’s finale is a performance of The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler, which will be performed on Friday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Great Hall.

A bit more about the show from the V-Day website: “20 years since Eve Ensler's play The Vagina Monologues shattered taboos, the stakes could not be higher. V-Day is a movement that grew out of the untold stories of women. We believe women. We believe in their right to tell their stories and we believe their stories need to be heard - nothing is more powerful.

The Vagina Monologues gave birth to V-Day, a global activist movement to end violence against all women and girls (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence). With creativity and determination, V-activists around the world tirelessly work to end harassment, rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sex slavery.”

AMWA is looking for women of all ages, races, sexualities and abilities to perform in the show (this show is designed to be performed solely by women). The script is available below for download and review to see if you are interested. The show is very low commitment: pieces can be performed with scripts, we have only two rehearsals and a final dress rehearsal before the show on Friday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m., and this is a great way to advocate for women in your very own university or workplace.

If you are interested in performing a piece (or pieces!) that resonates with you, please reach out to me by the end of Monday, Jan. 28. Casting will be determined and our first of two rehearsals scheduled by Wednesday, Jan. 30. Please email Prabhsimran Batra at pbatra@neomed.edu if you have questions. Thank you for your involvement!
