Become a Student Mentor for MEDCAMP 2016!

We looking for student mentors for MEDCAMP 2016!

MEDCAMP is an annual summer program for (50) rising ninth-grade students, which promotes careers in the life sciences, medicine and pharmacy. Priority is given to underrepresented applicants.

During MEDCAMP, the students attend lectures and activities on Thursday and laboratories on Friday. Throughout the experience, they are given clues to the illness of a fictitious patient and are asked to come up with a diagnosis. Research is done in the library on Friday evening. Each group presents their findings on Saturday morning.

Your responsibility would be to work (for two and half days) as a mentor to a group of 10-12 rising ninth-grade students and chaperone two nights at a Kent State University resident hall.

The dates for the program this summer are July 21, 22, and 23, 2016. You must also be available on Monday, July 18 from 8 a.m. to noon for orientation. The MEDCAMP program will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday and ends at noon on Saturday at noon. You would receive a daily stipend and all meals are included.

I have eight to ten available slots to fill. If you are interested in being a MEDCAMP mentor/chaperone and are a medicine or pharmacy student, please complete the application and return by email attachment to me, Denise Mead at dmead@neomed.edu or forward by campus mail to AHEC-MEDCAMP, G133, Department of Family and Community Medicine by Monday, March 28, 2016. You will be notified by email for an interview once all applications have been received.

If you have any questions or need further information, please call ext. 6580 (or off campus, 330-325-6580).
