Black History Month: Book Recommendation

While I have books of all kinds on the African-American experience, the one that has informed me the most is Afro-American History: Primary Sources, by Thomas R. Frazier (paperback, 1988). The book is an introduction to the history of African-Americans, using historical documents that originated in the Black community. While there have been more recent editions, Frazier’s dissection of American history from the colonial period through the mid-80s tells you everything you need to know. It may be helpful to you with all future experiences – personally or professionally – including conversations, interactions and collaborations. And it may well add depth to your consumption of other forms of engagement, such as literature, art and media.
