Please read the following message on behalf of Eugene Mowad, M.D.
The College of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Anita Pokorny, M.Ed., as the Assistant Dean of Students. In this position, she will bring her experience, energy, and skill to lead the College of Medicine’s efforts in designing an office that will serve the needs of medical students in the areas of student advocacy, engagement, success, and career planning.
We are fortunate to have recruited Ms. Pokorny into this position. She comes to us with 35 years of experience in the student affairs arena, with 29 years of experience in medical education. She is also a nationally recognized expert in medical student affairs, and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Group on Student Affairs for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Ms. Pokorny will assume her new role with the College of Medicine effective Monday, September 17, 2018 and her office will eventually be relocated to the Office of the Dean and Medical Education in the College of Medicine.
I also offer my sincere gratitude to Dr. Paul Lecat for the outstanding job he has done as Assistant Dean of Students for the past 2 years. When the College of Medicine made the strategic decision to move to a full time Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Lecat decided that he would instead focus his extensive experience, energy, and skill on his teaching and clinical responsibilities. He will, as always, continue to be a model for student advocacy within the College of Medicine.
Please join me in thanking Dr. Lecat for his service and in congratulating Ms. Pokorny on her new appointment.
