Common Ground, and Air

Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Marquinez, M.D. (’85), a member of the United States Air Force and the Ohio Air National Guard, was finally able to present a flag (shown) that was flown over Afghanistan on Feb. 20, 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

Dr. Marquinez, an associate professor of internal medicine who was deployed in Afghanistan last year at Kandahar Airfield’s Air Force clinic, presented the flag to NEOMED and to President John Langell, who is also an Air Force veteran. The two surgeons shared stories as they removed their masks to pose for this photo.

[Note: The Ohio Department of Health says fully vaccinated people may unmask if indoors with other people who are fully vaccinated.]
