Dr. Moses Oyewumi Named Interim Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Moses Oyewumi, B.Pharm., M.S., Ph.D., as interim chair of pharmaceutical sciences for the College of Pharmacy, effective immediately. Dr. Oyewumi will provide leadership and guidance regarding the administration of the department and work in tandem with Dr. Vanessa Fitsanakis, vice chair and lead for departmental curriculum activities.

Dr. Oyewumi has been with the College since January 2009. He has held various key committee positions within the College; designs and manages courses in the Pharm.D. curriculum; mentors undergraduate students for the Colleges of Pharmacy and Graduate Studies; and administers his personnel research portfolio that is focused on engineering and application of advanced drug delivery in: cancer therapeutics, smart drug delivery, bone regeneration, and neuroprotection. Dr. Oyewumi is also a graduate faculty member in the College of Graduate Studies and holds graduate faculty status at Kent Statue University in the Biomedical Sciences Program.

Dr. Oyewumi obtained his Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Kentucky, completed a post-graduate study and obtained his masters in pharmaceutics and industrial pharmacy at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, and obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria. He is also a registered pharmacist (Pharmacy Council of Nigeria).
