Excited about 2020!

Dear NEOMED Community:

With the month of January already in the past, I suppose it’s too late to say Happy New Year, but I must tell you all how excited I am about the year 2020 and beyond.

Though I’ve been here just over four months, I have engaged in dozens of conversations and forums with students, faculty and staff as well as civic, public, private and philanthropic stakeholders. So many of you have been generous with your time and insight, enthusiastically providing your ideas to build upon our successes and revisit those initiatives and plans that are in need of positive change.

I look forward to you joining me, Friday, April 17, 2020, at 2 p.m. in the NEW Center Grand Ballroom for my inauguration as NEOMED’s seventh president. I do not take this privilege lightly, and I will use this opportunity to reflect on my first six months and provide a vision of NEOMED’s future through a shared lens.

In addition to the listening tours, I have spent time gaining an understanding of our operations, our opportunities and our impact in health care. One of the themes that has emerged has been clarity of intent: that our entire University is unified in the primary focus of delivering an exceptional student experience, which includes education and practice, wellness and campus life. It is why NEOMED has so many graduates who are leaders in the health professions today, and it is how NEOMED will continue to provide the health professions with great leaders of tomorrow.

Every time we don’t deliver an exceptional student experience, is a missed opportunity. So, in the coming months, you may witness new developments, revised plans and other positive changes, all put into action with one purpose: to ensure our students are patient-centered, world class and prepared to be tomorrow’s greatest leaders in medical education, practice and research.

I look forward to working with you along the way.

Sincerely,

John T. Langell
President
