Forging Futures: Mary Massie-Story

Butter and sugar heated up on the stove. That’s what substituted for too-expensive medicine when young Mary Massie was growing up in the projects in Pittsburgh with her single mom and four brothers. Members of the family dealt with mental illness, trouble with drugs, even homelessness for a few years.

Still, someone always came through for Mary at the right time, allowing her to pursue an inner drive to become a physician.
