Get to Know Marketing and Communications Intern Angelina Cocchiola

Bio-Med senior Angelina Cocchiola is the new student intern in the Office of Marketing and Communications. Among her duties, she’ll write articles highlighting ways that Bio-Med students interact with NEOMED – for example, when students do internships with NEOMED researchers, or when University faculty members visit their classrooms. We posed a few questions to the high-energy Angelina to get to know her and see what she’ll bring to the job.

Where are you from? How long have you lived in Northeast Ohio?

I was born in Tampa, Florida. However, I do not remember living there. My family moved to Ohio to escape the heat, the not-so-nice wildlife, and the traffic when I was around 2 years old. I have been here for 15 years and my family loves Ohio much more than Florida!

How do you like to spend your free time?

I spend my free time drawing, playing the piano, singing, writing stories and watching TV. I like to give myself challenges that combine many of my interests, like watching the same genre and drawing all of the main protagonists from memory or figuring out how to do a hairstyle from a character in a show. Currently, I am drawing 48 of my favorite characters to decorate my walls.

What’s the best thing about being a Bio-Med student?

I enjoy how collaborative Bio-Med’s work is with other students as well as their project-based learning model. I feel like it is an extremely important skill to know how to handle different people, workloads, and situations in a group setting. Bio-Med’s work climate is perfect to learn how to adapt to these different things.

What is most interesting to you about Bio-Med’s proximity and connection with Northeast Ohio Medical University?

I find the school’s social climate very interesting! I think it’s super cool that we get to walk through NEOMED and sit in the atrium! It’s a super nice building.

Favorite book?

I love the Splintered book series. It is based on Alice in Wonderland, which is my favorite tale. There are three main books as well as a fourth book that provides the ending and extra content.

Last show you binge-watched?

I love watching TV, and I am currently binge-watching at least four shows right now. The one I am watching just by myself is Aggrestuko by Sanrio. It’s a more real life (and kind of dark) version of Hello Kitty with the same cute art style and characters — I love it so much.

If you could transform into any animal, which one would you choose?

I love chow chows because they are like fluffy teddy bears. Plus, dogs do not have to pay for anything. They get free food, get their own doctor’s office, and get lots of pats and attention. I could sleep all day and be cute – that’s the dream.

How about that dream job?

Right now, I would love to be a cosmetologist or a show writer/animator.
