Ignite Magazine Wins American Advertising Awards

NEOMED’s Ignite magazine won two prizes at 2020 American Advertising Awards presented at the Akron (Ohio) Civic Theatre Friday, Feb. 21.

A package of covers and feature story illustrations commissioned by Ignite won a Silver ADDY Award. The Spring 2019 issue cover was by artist Elise Radzialowski and the Fall 2019 issue cover was by artist Dave Szalay. Illustrations by Emily Wolchko (“The Ketogenic Diet, Demystified” and “The High Cost of Sugar”) and Caitlin Kane (“Taking a Family Approach to Schizophrenia) were also part of the winning package.

All of the winning artists are affiliated, either as graduates or as faculty, with the Myers School of Art at the University of Akron, which is a NEOMED partner school.

Ignite also won a Silver ADDY in the Editorial Spread or Feature category for a mental health feature from the Fall 2019 issue titled “Taking a Family Approach to Schizophrenia,” written by editor Elaine Guregian and illustrated by Caitlin Kane, with a layout by publication designer Scott J. Rutan. The article highlighted ways to pull together and help a financially struggling patient manage schizophrenia, with suggestions from NEOMED’s Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center.

The American Advertising Awards, also known as the ADDY Awards, honor “the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.” American Advertising Federation (AAF) clubs across the country, like AAF-Akron, host competitions to recognize the best work in their markets. Winners may continue to regional and national competitions.

Ignite magazine is available free online. To be added to the mailing list, contact eguregian@neomed.edu.
