Important Message Regarding the Health and Safety of the NEOMED Community

Dear NEOMED Community:

In our continuing efforts to ensure the health and safety of our campus during the COVID-19 pandemic, NEOMED is following the orders of Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health for all open businesses in the state of Ohio to monitor temperatures. Beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, NEOMED employees, students and visitors will be required to take their temperature each day prior to coming to campus. Temperatures below 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit will be considered normal, per CDC guidelines.

Each person will be required to sign a log certifying that they have taken their temperature, that their temperature is below 100.4 F and that they have not developed new symptoms of a respiratory illness. Those who cannot or are unwilling to certify these statements will not be permitted in campus buildings. (Please note, these campus restrictions do not apply to The Village, as that is independent housing.)

On weekdays, students who wish to come on campus may only enter the complex through the NEW Center the main front entrance by the fountain or the exterior door off the west patio. Entry by students via other doors will be prohibited. There will be a log for students to certify that their temperature is not 100.4 F or higher, and that they do not have any new respiratory symptoms. On weekends, students should access the University via the NEW Center west patio doors, then sign one of the logs. The logs will be collected each weekday and maintained by Safety Office personnel.

Employees may continue to enter campus buildings near their work areas. They will be required to complete a certification log with their signature and date, confirming that their temperature is below 100.4 F and that they have not developed new respiratory symptoms. Employee certification logs will reside with the departments. Each department should email daily logs to safety@neomed.edu once all essential personnel have reported. Logs will be maintained by the Safety Office as the official “custodian of the record,” in accordance with NEOMED’s record retention procedures.

During this time of crisis only visitors invited by faculty or staff for mission essential business will permitted in campus buildings. Visitors may only enter the complex through the NEW Center main entrance (not the Reception Desk) and be met there by their host.

To ensure accuracy, the following are guidelines on how to properly take your oral temperature:

  • Wait 30 minutes after eating, drinking, smoking or exercising.
  • Wait at least 6 hours after taking medicines such as Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen and aspirin that can lower your temperature.

One final note: As of Monday, March 23, NEW Center hours of operation will be weekdays from 7 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. The NEW Center will be entirely closed to external constituents on the weekends.

Thank you for your continued attention to the important work of keeping our campus safe for all.

Sincerely,

John T. Langell
President
