NEOMED grad flexes poetic muscles

Dr. Amit Majmudar ('03) recently visited Summit Artspace in Akron, not as a physician but in his newer role of Ohio Poet Laureate, to which he was appointed in December 2015 by Governor John Kasich.

Against the backdrop of contemporary art on the theme of the fusion of art and science, Dr. Majmudar read from his new collection, Dothead. He proved to be a charismatic speaker and a gracious colleague to two current NEOMED students who also read on the poetry program that evening.

Dr. Majmudar praised medical students Ileana Horattas and Reem Azem, both of whom were honored in this year’s national William Carlos Williams Poetry Competition—Horattas as the first-ever winner (she shared first place) from NEOMED. Elaine Guregian, assistant director of the Office of Public Relations and Marketing, hosted the event in the main gallery of Summit Artspace on May 16.
