NEOMED Honors Charter Faculty Member Mark L. Savickas, Ph.D.

The NEOMED Board of Trustees has adopted a Resolution of Appreciation and awarded Mark L. Savickas, Ph.D. the distinction Professor Emeritus, honoring Dr. Savickas for his 40 years of dedicated and distinguished service to NEOMED.

A charter faculty member, Dr. Savickas joined NEOMED in 1976. His contributions to the university include 27 years as chair and now chair emeritus of the Department of Behavioral Sciences. He served the students of NEOMED and its consortium universities and hospitals as a teacher, advisor, mentor and advocate. He has played a central role in educating and counseling medical students and residents about medical behavioral sciences and their own medical career development and his national and international accomplishments as a teacher and scholar are immense. Dr. Savickas contributed to the development of the College of Medicine’s overall curriculum from the beginning days of the school. He served many terms on 24 different standing committees and 62 ad hoc committees, including 30 years on the Phase 1 Academic Review and Promotion Committee (now the Committee on Academic and Professional Progress), 27 years on Academic Council and eight years as chair of the Tenure Committee. Dr. Savickas has continued teaching at NEOMED since his retirement in 2013.
