NEOMED Is Lighted Up with Pride

A rainbow of colors and a swath of sparkles is lighting up the NEW Center these days. The reason? June is Pride Month, celebrating everyone in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) community.

Equity and inclusion are core values at NEOMED. Andre Burton, J.D., vice president for Human Resources and Diversity, recently noted that  “On campus, that means creating a place where our LGBTQ community feels fully included and at home. Off campus, that means sending our alumni out into the world to advocate for the full human rights of all people.”

Among the many student organizations on campus is The Medical Student Pride Alliance, a NEOMED affiliate of a national organization whose mission is “To inform and educate future healthcare professionals about the unique experiences and needs of the queer community, including, but not limited to: gender and sexual minorities, such as, queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex identities, as well as families, friends, and allies of said groups, in order to produce knowledgeable and compassionate physicians, pharmacists, and scientists who are better able to serve the needs of said groups.”
