NEOMED Mourns Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon Dennis Weiner

NEOMED mourns the passing at age 82 of Dennis Weiner, M.D., a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon. One of NEOMED’s first faculty members, Dr. Weiner served from 1977 until his death June 19.

An Akron Beacon Journal article quoted Mark Adamczyk, M.D., a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and vice chair of the [Akron] Children’s [Hospital] Department of Orthopedic Surgery, as saying, “Dr. Weiner was a visionary, becoming a pediatric orthopedic surgeon before the specialty even existed. He had extraordinary, infectious enthusiasm for his life and his work that inspired the generations of pediatric orthopedic surgeons who followed him and continue his legacy at Akron Children’s Hospital.”

From 1982 until his death, Dr. Weiner was a professor of orthopaedic surgery at NEOMED, following a position as associate professor from 1977-1982.

His son Scott Weiner, M.D., is an orthopaedic surgeon with Summa Health and a NEOMED professor of orthopaedic surgery.
