NIH Funds Researcher Takhar Kasumov

Congratulations to Takhar Kasumov, Ph.D, an associate professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, for receiving an award from The National Institutes of Health’s Micro Mouse Phenotyping Center (MMPC) at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia.

The NEOMED researcher received a pilot grant for the development of new technologies for disease phenotyping in a mouse model. Dr. Kasumov explains that the award will fund research of the pathogenesis of obesity-associated metabolic diseases, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and type 2 diabetes – diseases that afflict one-third of the U.S. population.
