Ohio Physiological Society Meeting Recognizes NEOMED Graduate Student

Holly Cappelli, a graduate student in the NEOMED lab of Charles Thodeti, Ph.D., was awarded the OPS Best Poster Award for her presentation at the 31st Annual Ohio Physiological Society meeting held on Nov. 19 in Columbus. Cappelli was one of just 8 graduate students selected from 70 to give an oral presentation.

Cappelli explains, “My research is focused on developing better therapies for cancer treatment by understanding the molecular mechanism of how new blood vessels are formed. We have discovered that targeting a mechanosensitive ion channel (TRPV4) is a promising means of repairing the leaky tumor blood vessels, which allows for the efficient delivery of anti-cancer drugs to reduce tumor growth.”
