Students in the Veterinary Pharmacy elective course got hands-on experience during class on Sept. 20. Stanley Dannemiller, D.M.V., director of NEOMED’s Comparative Medicine Unit, brought in his Great Dane, Sogar (pictured above).
Dr. Dannemiller, who co-teaches the course with Liz Fredrickson, Pharm.D. (’14), demonstrated how to take a dog’s blood glucose and give an insulin injection.
Students in the Veterinary Pharmacy course are learning about the pharmaceutical care of dogs and cats, how to appropriately counsel pet owners and how to work interprofessionally with veterinarians. Throughout the course, they will also have opportunities to practice compounding common prescriptions for animal patients.
