To the NEOMED Community,
On Nov. 29, 2018, the U.S. Department of Education published its proposed regulation on Title IX, commonly known as a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM). The regulation has been published for review and comment by the public. The publication date opened a 60-day comment period during which the Department of Education will accept public input on the proposed regulation. The window of opportunity for public comments closes Jan. 28, 2019.
NEOMED’s current Title IX policies and procedures will remain unchanged until the final regulation is published. Any required changes will then be determined by appropriate University personnel. If adopted, the regulation reflected in the NPRM would represent a significant shift in the Department of Education’s interpretation of Title IX, which currently addresses sex discrimination and sexual misconduct at institutions receiving federal financial assistance.
Any individual who wishes to submit comments may do so under their own name. In addition to the regulation, the Department of Education has provided a lengthy background and summary document. Please consider reading the entire summary and proposed regulation before submitting your comment. Doing so will ensure you are well-informed before providing comments.
