Seeing the Potential in Family Medicine

Michelle Xu, a third-year College of Medicine student, and AuBree LaForce, a second-year College of Medicine student, recently attended the Family Medicine Education Consortium (FMEC), Inc. Annual Meeting, held Nov. 8-10, in Rye Brook, New York.

“AuBree and I spent the weekend with fellow medical students, residents, attending physicians and medical education facilitators from all over the country in hopes of fulfilling FMEC's mission — to improve the health of the nation and achieve family medicine's full potential,’’ said Xu.

The pair presented clinical research on hypertension quality improvement from a project they conducted in Lorain County, Ohio. They also participated in a variety of workshops and seminars that addressed some of the many social issues surrounding primary care medicine and how to redefine the roles of a family physician within the community, Xu said.

“We will continue to network within the realm of family medicine and are looking forward to attending FMEC 2019 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania,” she said.
