Student Leadership Awards: Nomination Deadline, March 23

NEOMED students are amazing, so let's recognize them!

The Office of Student Affairs would like to recognize our students for their service and leadership by highlighting their achievements at the 3rd Annual Student Leadership Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the NEW Center Ballroom. Awards will be given to individual students, student organization advisors, and student organizations who have shown a strong commitment to community service, leadership, and overall involvement in both the NEOMED and Northeast Ohio Communities. All students, faculty, and staff eat for FREE! Even if you aren’t being recognized, still attend to congratulate your peers. RSVP today!

The Keynote Speaker is Nancy L. Gantt, M.D., F.A.C.S. Dr. Gantt is Co-Medical Director of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center. Board certified in general surgery, Dr. Gantt is a graduate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed her surgical residency at the Hospitals of the University Health Center of Pittsburgh. She also spent one year in pediatric surgery research at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She is currently associate director of surgical education at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. A proponent of breast health education, Dr. Gantt serves on the St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital Breast Care Advisory Board, the Mahoning County American Cancer Society Board and makes numerous presentations throughout the community.

Several awards will be presented to students and advisors for the 2017-2018 academic year. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit nominations by March 23, 2018.

Outstanding Student Leader Award

The Outstanding Student Leader Award is presented annually to a student showing exemplary academic work, involvement in extracurricular activities, and broad base of awareness and leadership.

Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award

The Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award is presented to a Faculty/Staff Advisor who has lent his/her leadership and expertise to promote the objectives of a registered student organization who most exemplifies the characteristics listed within the eligibility criteria.

NEOMED Ethical Leader Award

The NEOMED Ethical Leader Award is designed to recognize one outstanding NEOMED student for his/her continued contributions to modeling ethical leadership at NEOMED who most exemplifies the characteristics listed within the eligibility criteria.

NEOMED Student Organization of the Year Award

The NEOMED Student Organization of the Year Award is designed to recognize one outstanding NEOMED Student Organization for their continued contribution to the University, service to the community, educational program offerings, and demonstration of effective leadership qualities.

Diversity Student Organization of the Year Award

The Diversity Student Organization of the Year award is designed to recognize one outstanding diverse student organization who demonstrates a commitment to issues of diversity, inclusion and equity. In addition, the student organization must also develop positive collaborative relationships with other student organizations, community agencies, University departments, and faculty and staff.

Medicine Peer Tutor of the Year Award

Medicine Peer Tutor of Year Award is designed to recognize one outstanding Medicine Peer Tutor for 2017-2018 academic year. Peer tutors are selected based on their dedication to assisting other students with academic needs through individual and small group tutoring sessions. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Pharmacy Peer Tutor of the Year Award

Pharmacy Peer Tutor of Year Award is designed to recognize one outstanding Pharmacy Peer Tutor for 2017-2018 academic year. Peer tutors are selected based on their dedication to assisting other students with academic needs through individual and small group tutoring sessions. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
