Students Ask — Accessibility at The Village

Students asked many questions at the Town Hall held Monday, Oct. 22 – so many that there wasn’t time to answer all of them. So, NEOMED leaders will answer the remaining questions from that event here and in future issues of The Pulse.

Q: Why aren’t the entrance doors to the buildings in the Village handicap accessible?

A: The grade-level doors in The Village are ADA accessible. However, there may be a timing issue that we need to adjust to make it more convenient.

The issue is with the swipe access and the short delay time programmed in the electronic release and re-locking mechanism. Currently, there is only a 4.5 second release time. There should be at least a 30 second time frame, so a handicapped individual can swipe, maneuver over to the door, pull the door back, and then maneuver through.

We are working to reprogram the opening time. This adjustment should solve any access problem.
