University Update recapped
NEOMED President Dr. John Langell shared news from around the organization and took questions during a University Update on Jan. 21. Among the highlights:
- The Certified Mental Health Assistant, a new profession created by NEOMED, was pass by the Ohio legislature and signed into law by Governor DeWine.
- The affiliation agreement between NEOMED and University Hospitals has been renewed and expanded.
- Student accomplishments were spotlighted, including
- Trinity Kronk, Ph.D./M.D. student, was appointed by Governor Mike DeWine as a student trustee to the NEOMED Board of Trustees
- Michael Massey, M3, was awarded the Nicholas Skala Health Activist Award from Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP)
- Natasha Salmen, M3, was honored with the National AHEC Organization 2024 Alumni/Advocate of the Year Award
- Sam Crish, Ph.D., received a $43,000 grant from the Templeton Medication Research Foundation.
- Military matches were announced in December: fourth-year medical students Jurgen Daye Trujillo (Army) and Yaritza Torres (Navy), matched for emergency medicine at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Cavazos, Texas, and Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) in San Diego, California, respectively.
- The Lean Six Sigma for Healthcare Operations program has been accredited by the Council for Six Sigma Certification (CSSC)
- Faculty and staff have the opportunity to review and provide feedback on the first draft of the Strategic Plan Refresh during the World Cafes.
- Upcoming events: Lunar New Year Celebration 24; Aesculapius Charity Ball Feb. 1; VITALS with Mehdi Shishehbor, D.O., University Hospitals, Feb. 6; Employee Recognition Awards, March 7; Match Day, March 21; Commencement, May 3.
