Faculty and Staff Recognized for Service and Achievements

Congratulations on the dedicated service and stellar accomplishments of all those honored at the 2019 Faculty and Staff Recognition and Awards program, held as a remote event Wednesday, June 17.

Charity Davis, M.B.A., director of the Office of Human Resources, welcomed the remote audience and introduced the day’s speakers and presenters, beginning with President Langell.

First up to be recognized: John Boltri, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, was presented the 2019 Olson/Blair Award, named for Stanley Olson, M.D., and his wife, Lorraine, along with Charles Blair, M.D., who served during the development of the College of Medicine.

The Olson/Blair Award honors a faculty or staff member within the NEOMED community who has a senior administrative appointment in an academic or service area and is given in recognition for outstanding administrative leadership through demonstrated initiative and innovative techniques including the ability to motivate and supervise, make critical judgments and contribute to the betterment of NEOMED as a whole.

In presenting the award, Michelle Mulhern, M.P.A., chief of staff, noted Dr. Boltri’s particular achievements in 2019.  Among his accomplishments, Dr. Boltri led a diverse team of faculty and staff in obtaining three major grant awards, in the areas of opioid use disorder curriculum; geriatric workforce development; and a program to develop a curriculum that integrates behavioral health into primary care practice.

One of Dr. Boltri’s nominators commented that “he works by the belief best expressed by President Harry S. Truman – that you can get a lot accomplished if you don’t care who gets the credit.” Thanking the whole team in the Department of Family and Community Medicine for working alongside him, Dr. Boltri concluded, “We love our students.”
