University Update recap

NEOMED President Dr. John Langell shared news from around the organization and took questions during a University Update on Dec. 16. Among the highlights:

  • Students have started their winter break. There will be early release for employees on Friday, Dec. 20.
  • The University received notice of $290,000 in grant funding to Emily Ribnik for the Criminal Justice Coordinating Center of Excellence since the last update.
  • Congratulations to Magdi Awad for being recognized as the ASHP Board of Director’s Pharmacy Champion Award.
  • Congratulations to second-year medicine student Hudson Rogers, who was commissioned as second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in a ceremony held Monday, Dec. 16, in the Purple Star Military Lounge.
  • Anna Cmolik, third-year medicine student, recently published “My Blankie” in Pulse – voices from the heart of medicine.
  • NEOMED was well represented at the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Physicians Scientific Conference by students and faculty.
  • Faculty, staff and students will have the opportunity to review and provide feedback on the first draft of the Strategic Plan Refresh. Register for only one session at the links below:

  • Upcoming events: VITALS with Theresa Michele, M.D. (’91), director of the Office of Nonprescription Drugs at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is Jan. 9 at noon; NEOMED Night with the Cavs is Jan. 5; Aesculapius Charity Ball is Feb. 1.
  • John Stilliana, vice president for government and external relations, shared information on the state’s bi-annum budget and the process for receiving funding for NEOMED.
